Who are the guest speakers?

» Ms. Maria Eloisa C. Quiambao

Maria Eloisa C. Quiambao, Founder and President of WorldRoom, has been serving in the field of education since 1997. She finished her MA in Family Life and Child Development (MA-FLCD) at the University of the Philippines in 2002. In 2008, she attended the Leadership in Education Programme International (LEPI) under the National Institute of Education (NIE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. In 2010, she graduated from two institutes under the Programs in Professional Education (PPE) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Her past affiliations with professional organizations include the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). Currently, she serves as the Directress of the Meridian International Learning Experience, an innovative Preschool, Grade School and High School at the heart of Quezon City. Ms. Quiambao is also passionate about constantly improving the quality of teaching and learning in classrooms and equipping teachers through innovative training programs. This led her to the founding of WorldRoom, Inc., an organization that seeks to support Filipino teachers’ professional growth. The primary mission of WorldRoom is to connect individuals to social and global events, stories and trends that impact today's classroom, mentors and young people.

» Ms. Sarah R. de Veyra

Sarah R. de Veyra is a member of the WorldRoom Team as a Creative Resource Consultant. As a Manila-based visual artist and art educator, she equips herself with studies and training by being a China major in the MA Asian Studies program in the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She graduated cum laude in the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Fine Arts and received the Outstanding Thesis Award. She finds joy in performing research studies on topics including Asian art aesthetics, forms, and practices; cultural traditions and societal transformation in Asia; and the development of Chinese thought, among others. She is also the resident Visual Arts Teacher and Creative Resource Specialist at the Meridian International Learning Experience. She dreams of establishing a training center that would support and nurture Filipino talent in the field of visual arts, as well as of one day building an experiential historical museum for Filipino children in the Philippines and abroad.

» Mr. Caesar “Butch” L. Conde

Mr. Caesar "Butch" L. Conde is a former systems analyst of Procter and Gamble, Philippines. He is the chief visionary and chairman of the board of Meridian International Learning Experience, a primary and secondary school with a strong nation-building thrust and a curriculum that is built upon and promotes 21st century real-life learning (almost a decade old, various communities are seeking to establish their own Meridian school here and abroad). He is presently the wellness director of Planet Infinity, a fitness facility with branches in the Philippines and the USA. He is also the chairman of the board of the martial arts training institute More Than Medals (MTM), also based in the Philippines. He is an international speaker who has lectured widely on topics including geo-politics; Filipino diaspora; education trends in the 21st century; paradigm shifts in social, economic, and political spheres; as well as 'overall' wellness for individuals, among others. Over the years he has done in-depth studies on the transformative aspects of Chinese thought, society, and culture that have led to the country’s emergence as a global superpower in the 21st century. He speaks to various people groups including those in the business, government, socio-civic, professional, and academic sectors. His fresh perspective and insights should enrich our understanding of the fast-changing "flat" world we live in today.

About the Speaker

Tony Wagner recently accepted a position as the first Innovation Education Fellow at the Technology & Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard. Prior to this, he was the founder and co-director of the Change Leadership Group at the Harvard Graduate School of Education for more than a decade.

Tony consults widely to schools, districts, and foundations around the country and internationally. His previous work experience includes twelve years as a high school teacher, K-8 principal, university professor in teacher education, and founding executive director of Educators for Social Responsibility.

Tony is also a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and a widely published author. His work includes numerous articles and four books. Tony’s latest, The Global Achievement Gap: Why Even Our Best Schools Don’t Teach the New Survival Skills Our Children Need—and What We Can do About It has been a best seller and is being translated into Chinese. His fifth book, Creating Innovators: The Making of Young People Who Will Change The World, will be published in April 2012. Tony has also recently collaborated with noted filmmaker Robert Compton to create a 60-minute documentary, “The Finland Phenomenon: Inside The World’s Most Surprising School System.”

Tony earned an M.A.T. and an Ed.D. at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
